PERFORMANCE
Range Rover

When it comes to luxury SUVs, performance is everything. Luckily, the Range Rover and the BMW X5 pull through with some seriously impressive engineering. Let’s take a closer look at what lies beneath the hoods of these SUVs.

Engine Options

The BMW X5 has three engine options to choose from. Standardly, the 3.0L 6-cylinder produces up to 375 horsepower, so you can really gun it while behind the wheel. Plus, this powertrain comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the Range Rover offers four engines to choose from, so you’ll have a wider range of performance options with this model. It standardly generates 394 horsepower, and its engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. More gears in the Range Rover means more seamless handling and a smoother ride than in the X5.

Similarly, the Ranger Rover and the X5 both offer hybrid models. When you want to drive short distances more efficiently, you can rely on their all-electric capabilities. While the X5 offers an all-electric range up to 40 miles, you’ll be able to travel farther in the Range Rover, thanks to its 51-mile all-electric range.

Performance Outputs

Standardly, the Range Rover starts stronger, with 394 horsepower. Additionally, the Range Rover engines can reach track speeds of up to 162 MPH, while the BMW maxes out at 130 MPH unless it has additional equipment.

Both the Range Rover and the BMW X5 allow you to upgrade your engine to an available 4.4L V8 with its white knuckle-producing 523 horsepower. As such, either one enables you to launch from 0 to 60 MPH in just over four seconds.

INTERIOR
Range Rover

SUVs are known for their spacious interiors. While both the Range Rover and the BMW X5 offer the lavish styling you’d expect from a luxury SUV, when it comes to space and amenities, there are some differences.

Pack Your Cargo

The Range Rover ensures you’ll have plenty of room to pack what you need thanks to its generous 83.5 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded down. This is ideal for transforming your vehicle into a cargo-hauling machine, whether it’s for adventure equipment or the spoils from that huge shopping trip.

While still generous, the BMW X5 only offers 72.3 cubic feet of cargo when the back seats are folded down. As such, you may have to limit what you take along in the X5.

Stretch Out

The theme continues when you compare these models’ legroom. Front-row riders will experience fairly similar amounts of legroom: 39.9 inches in the Range Rover and 39.8 inches in the X5. On the other hand, the Range Rover presents passengers with a stretch-out worthy 40.4 inches in the back seat, while the BMW X5 falls short with 37.4 inches.

TECHNOLOGY
Range Rover

In addition to having a lot of interior space, you’ll also have next-level technology features to enjoy. These features can spruce up your drives and make it easier to stay connected, whether you’re passing through town or heading out on a road trip.

Pack Your Car

There are many features you’ll find standard or available in the cabin of the Range Rover that aren’t found with the X5 to make driving an enjoyable experience. These amenities include:

  • 4-zone climate control
  • Rear Seat Entertainment systems
  • Front-seat infotainment system with a dashboard touchscreen

Additionally, the Range Rover offers a 13.1-inch screen, while the BMW X5 comes with a 12.3-inch display.

Range Rover Exclusives

There are a couple things you won’t be able to get for the BMW X5, though. These Range Rover exclusives include the Meridian™ Signature Sound System equipped with 34 speakers, a dual-channel subwoofer, and Trifield 3D technology. You’ll even enjoy better sound quality in the Range Rover thanks to its active noise cancellation.

The Harman Kardon® Surround Sound Audio System found in the X5 maxes out at 16 speakers and offers fewer advanced features. So, for a fully immersive concert-level sound experience, you’ll want to choose the Range Rover.
